I did all the hard soldering work, got slack when I was putting the handles on, tried to make the D1 LED fit when it wasn't soldered straight, poked at it with the pliers, and cracked the LED.

Better than cracking the PCB or the trace.

Any suggestions on a replacement LED part #?

I'm sorry to hear that. The exact replacement 3 mm yellow LEDs are on the Evil Mad Science LED Headquarters page.

I wonder, did you not get a spare yellow LED in the kit? Check the baggies that came in your box...

Or was I just blessed by the gods with a magical 9th?

I got a spare transistor (that bending was quite fiddly, took the longest part of the project), but no spare LED. Razz

Thankfully, I do better software than hardware. Razz I think I got impatient cause I was almost done, and stopped being careful.

Also, if you have a 'similar' 3mm LED lying around you could use that in a pinch... Unless the color difference would drive you completely mad.

Like it would me. Razz

Forget I even mentioned it!

Yeah, that was my thinking. I ordered a replacement set, and you know... LEDs need to be everywhere. I'll just be a little more exact when I solder it in place so that it lines up with the plastics right.

Yeah, I was a little lax in aligning mine when I soldered them in... Had to reheat two or three to get them to fit the handles once I was happy that everything was working.

Those laser-cut holes are a lot more precise than the homebrew stuff I would have done myself. I'm afraid they'll spoil me for good.
