Oh: the clear LED's don't seem to exhibit the "fading" effect as much. Which program variables would most affect that?

The exact same program is used on both versions. The trouble is that above a certain brightness your eyes can't tell apart variations, even when there's that factor of 60 between the brightest and dimmest values.... And those LEDs are painfully bright.[/p]

Figured it was the same program (only one listing . It'll be a good project to play with after Halloween when I have some time and install some programmer headers on the board.

As for classes: I see that techshop offers a soldering class for $50, plus $11 for materials. Seems a bit steep? Hmmm...

Depends what you get for your money. Could be a good deal or not, depending on class size, topic, equipment, and instructor. I think that the classes that I was doing there cost less....

It worked! It worked it worked it worked!

I ordered two more of the kits and just had a chance to sit down with one--it worked! I used a normal soldering iron borrowed from a friend, and it went off mostly without a hitch (I did manage to take one of the contacts off the board when the gun was turned up too high, but I rigged it back alright).
