Hello all,

Ive got one for anyone willing to have a go at it,

an addaptor to convert a DESKTOP Hard drive to a LAPTOP IDE connectior

thats right, use a desktop hard disk in a laptop computer..

my idea... ok so i have a laptop, and i thing it would make the damn sweetist server ever as it can fit anywhere. problem is i have no hard drive for it.

BUT

what if, what if you could make a addaptor to use a desktop hdd in a laptop.

ofcorse use external power OR tap in to the battery charging side of it and leach power of there. thing to rember is that a laptop HDD runs of only +5V, where as a desktop HDD runs off +12 and +5 volts,

thing i need to try and sus out is that if it is possable.

intresting project? or is it too.... "technical" for you guys as it involvs computers?

like to see some replys on this...

hehehehehe i did say im InSaNe CrAzY Laughing Out Loud Twisted Evil Laughing Out Loud

Peace

Why not just use a USB drive enclosure?

They make cases you can stick a regular hard drive into that converts
them to USB. Just plug in a USB cable and an external power supply
and Bobs your uncle.

hehe, the laptop that i need it for has no USB support, and when ever i try to use a USB decice as a "boot" device the things never seem to work :/
ive allready sort of made one now,
i used a few paperclips, wirecutters and glue
i brought a 2.5 to 3.5 converter and just stuck pins into the laptop hard disk side of the connectior, glued them in and it seems to work..
this is only crude and will make a better one at another time heh
