Ive only been a evilmadscientist surfer for a few months, but it seems yous all know your stuff, so thats why im asking this here. I am moving into an apartment soon in an apartment building and the same fire escape that goes to my apartment goes to like 30 others. I would like to know if anyone knows of a simple DIY security system? I was thinking of something simple that would sound an alarm if a connection was dropped(someone opened the window). I figure that would solve anyone opening my window, if i left it accidently unlocked. I was also wondering.....any ideas on how to sound an alarm if a window has been broken? |

Plenty of things like this on Instructables: Super-simple-door-alarm Trip-Wire-Alarm for-annoying-sister-types Simple-Magnetic-Alarm Quick-and-Dirty-electric-tripwire--The-Home-Guard Quick-and-Dirty-Homemade-Reed-Switch 5-Dollar-Burglar-Alarm! For a glass breakage sensor, try making a long trace with conductive paint or glue on the glass that would break when the glass does: Make-Conductive-Glue-and-Glue-a-Circuit Windell H. I was kind of hoping for something a little more dramatic. Like maybe a laser, or a trigger that shoots an arrow at the intruder? Maybe an electified moat? |

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that you can get in both civil and criminal trouble if you make anything that is a 'trap'. |
