Hi, I'm working on a X-Y positioning system(call it what you want). Right know it's only in the beginning stage. I got some motors from an old printer, some lead screws from Home Depot, and some bearings online.
There are:
Two Minebea stepper motors PM55L and PM35L(the ones I was hoping to use). Links:

Sure, but there's a lot more to it, Z in particular. You might start out a little more simply, without all the powder handling, and just try to make a nice drawing robot, er pen plotter, to make sure that things are going well.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking of doing first. But when I was talking to somebody about the line plotter, I said I got the motors from an old printer, and then he said, "So you(I) took apart a printer, added more parts, to make another printer."

I'm starting to get into the electronics, I got the power supply wired up. It has one adjustable regulator, for the motors, and one 5 volt regulator, for the motor driver logic.

Which microcontroller should I use. I have a:
Propellor chip at 80 Mh, 8 processor, 3.3 volt, and 32 bit.
BASIC Stamp 2 Homework board which is 5 volt, 16 bit, and very simple.
Burnt out Atmega328(I could order another one on Digikey, I did need some more parts anyway) , which I don't know how to program that well, but I could learn.
