1) there's no sound at all. i'm pretty sure i lined up the +/- correctly, the text on the buzzer is right-side-up.

2) at the startup screen, the 1st LED in column 1 and the 4th LED in the same column stay off, but seem to work fine when the game starts. when i installed the four 10-pin strips onto the 8X8 grid (before attaching it to the white board), i accidentally broke 3 prongs off instead of two. so one side is 8 and 8 like it's supposed to be, but the other side is 9 and 7. i'm sure this doesn't matter, as the pins are completely surrounded by black plastic and do not connect, but i would like to clarify if this matters with someone.

3) some of my yellow LEDs didn't work but i resoldered and fixed that, so this is actually no longer an issue.

i'm going to spraypaint my buttons a metallic silver, it will look bad ass with my smoke-colored case.

after miraculously fixing the unlit LED problem, i checked all the connections as described in this thread

so then i tried unsoldering/removing the speaker.it wouldn't budge although the black part ripped off, and now the goddamn thing does NOTHING when powered on.

i am SO pissed off right now. i've been out in the garage for five hours with this thing.

got the system working again, although it will short out every now and then. i found solder underneath the 8X8 grid on the pins. i have no clue how that got there. i also resoldered the red/black wires.

sound still doesn't work and it seems as though the buzzer's black cap snaps (without snapping) back into place.

I'm glad that you got it (mostly) working. You can probably identify the remaining shorts by trying to wiggle components one at a time and see what's flaky.

As for the speaker, it may or may not be the case that the speaker itself is damaged. I've never operated one once the case has been removed. Please contact us through the web store if you'd like to get a replacement. Otherwise, check the circuit diagram and see what the connections are to that speaker-- you may be able to identify the problem location.

Quite possibly. Once one starts desoldering things, things tend to go very wrong in our experience.

I'm very sorry. Our spam filter is a necessary evil, crude but mostly effective, and a total PITA. It adapts daily to where spam is coming from; but occasionally this means that it even blocks google and flickr.
