I submitted this via the "contact us" link, but now that I think about it, this may be a better place:


This is a fairly random question, but I notice that since you at least partially disassembled your 850a rework gun....

I have a similar 850a clone, which unfortunately decided to let out the magic white smoke -- it ended up completely frying a resistor on the PCB, to the point I can't recognize the value of it. I was wondering if you could do me a favor and take a picture of the PCB? the resistors in question (R13 and R19) are right near the top, so the board wouldn't need to be unmounted.

I would be very grateful if you could do this -- I'm a starving student, and can't afford to replace this useful (ex-)part of my toolbox

I have a feeling that all of the Hakko clones (sunkko, Aoyue, Quakko) probably use the same components, since externally there seems to be little to no difference, which the exception of the logo.

It's been a while, and I'd kind of forgotten about this, but I was wondering if you would still be in the mood to take the top off your hot air gun

As you can see, I've removed the resistors, but you can see where they got toasty. Any chance of getting a photo / value of the resistors? Luckily they're near the top, so they don't require removal of the board from the faceplate.

Hmm... I did take some pictures, but my board looks nothing like yours, so I doubt that the resistor numbers would match up.

Yeah -- it's unfortunate. I was hopping that they copied the board as well. Oh well. It does look like there are some similarities in the designs, but it certainly looks like my board was the ultra-lite edition.

I think I'm going to just start trying random resistors starting in the k-range and working my way down
