If the servo is powered up and cannot move, then it's definitely alive to some extent. That suggests that the board is getting power. Blinking LEDs indicate that the processor is alive and working. That you don't get an error message suggests that the USB connection is working, and that the processor is responding to it correctly. Only, the motors aren't responding.
