Hi. I recently bought a few of these kits at the MAKER and am interested in reprogramming the AVR to display a custom message. I'll probably pick up one of ladyAda's programmers when they're back in stock, but are there any tutorials on how I would get started programming the chip? Especially with reference to the LED Readerboard? Thanks.

Yup, use LadyAda's programmer. See the Main info, FAQ, and Techincal Data. You'll also want to read up on target boards for use with the programmer and about AVRs in general. See also this alternative set of instructions. You can even make an AlphaPOV. Smile

I'm in the same boat. I've been tinkering with the Arduino, and I want to know how I can code a project using the arduino IDE, and have it run off just the ATmeg168 chip sans Arduino board.
