I have tried a few search terms but having no luck., I am wanting to find a way to make a homebrew tablet to be able to hook into my tower via USB/? , possibly using parts from old handhelds and using a stylus,?

Yes, it is possible. However the cost to do it well is usually in excess of the cost of low end tablets.
