Is there a known issue with the FTDI Friend and auto-reset? When I try to upload a sketch, I see the tx light blink a couple times and see some errors appear at the bottom of the window:
Binary sketch size: 1018 bytes (of a 30720 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
I can (often) get the program transferred if I follow the manual reset instructions from:

Is the FTDI Friend supposed to support auto-reset?
(shouldn't matter, but just in case, my host is Mac OS X)

Follow-up: tried another instance of the FTDI Friend and saw the same behavior, but your FTDI cable works fine. I'll dive into the Adafruit forums tonight and see if the answer lies there.

The FTDIfriend *should* work fine for this; I would suggest following up on the Adafruit forums as you said.

I *finally* got around to messing with this, and was able to fix it by doubling the auto-reset capacitor (C6) to .2uF
