 Uno Bootloader compatible? (Meggy)

Hi, my meggy jr kit should be here sometime soon (I hope),
but my question is as follows.
I have a spare atmel 328p chip (with uno bootloader) lying around.
Would I be able to solder in the 328 instead of the 168 without any modifications to the chip? Or is the Uno bootloader (or the 328p in itself) somehow not compatible with the meggy?

Thx in advance

The Meggy Jr RGB kit comes with an ATmega328P microcontroller, pre-flashed with the old-style (pre-uno) bootloader. This is the correct bootloader to use if you are going to reprogram the Meggy through (for example) an FTDI USB-TTL cable.

Your '328P with uno bootloader can be installed in the Meggy Jr RGB without any other modifications, assuming that it's the DIP version of the chip. However, if you use it, you'll need to use an uno-bootloader compatible USB-TTL interface, rather than the usual FTDI type. (The USB interface chip (ATmega8U2 or '16U2) on an uno would be one example.)

that makes everything so much easier Big Grin
I wasn't aware that the meggy is now shipped with a 328 (did I miss this fact or are the documents regarding the assembly of the meggy jr not updated? My apologies if I just skimmed over that part Wink )
Another question would be the compatibility to the new 1.0 IDE,
or should I use the older version .23?
Sorry if my questions are kind of simple,
but I'm relatively new to the whole microcontroller thing and I choose the arduino platform as my entry.

and thanks again for your quick answer

Certainly possible, either way. Smile There is some out-of-date information out there, both on our sites and others.

I have not tested 1.0 yet, but I do not expect any problems. If you do come across any, please let me know and I'll investigate.
