Hi

I just finished soldering up your kit, your instructions are clear, easy to follow, great job!
The PC board is a thing of beauty!

However the instructions are not really clear on what to do next after completing the assembly? I powered up and got all 625 LED's to light up except for two which I guess are just bad LED's or bad solder joints? I will try replacing them with some of the extras you included. I could not get any other patterns to display, just the full "all on" display.

Can you describe how the buttons are supposed to function?

I downloaded the Arduino software & Peggy Sketch folder but I can't seem to find where to place the peggy folder? I don't have any library folders inside the Applications folder nor could i find files called "EPROM" or "Wired" on my hardrives??

I am using the USB cable to connect and the "Serial Port" is grayed out under the tool menu in the Arduino software? Any suggestions?

Using Mac OSX 10.5.8

Thanks - Mark

ps. my mood is pensive which doesn't seem to an option on the drop down? - lol

The standard firmware that ships with the kit doesn't do anything other than light up (or turn off) the LEDs, so you aren't missing anything there. Upload the various example files to see different things that it can do.

For the two LEDs that are not working, it is most likely a bad solder joint, bUt occasionally LEDs are damaged ininstallation. Do not try and desolder them unless you can first *verify* that they are bad, by placing a new LED up against its pins on the bottom side.

The library folder is normally in the Arduino folder in your Documents folder. Open the preferences dialog in Arduino to see what that actual location is. You do not need to do anything with files named Wired or EPROM, so I'm not sure what you are up to there.

As for the grayed out serial port, I don't know. First, make sure that the right "board" type is selected, "duemilanove with '328."

Ok something was not right with the Arduino 1.0 download, tools>serial port menu is grayed out. Nothing shows up under File>Sketchbook>

I downloaded the 0017 build and now the tools>serialport>/dev.tty.usbserial-FTF7KAV9 is showing up and selected.

The Board selected is Arduino duemilanove ATmega328

So far so good.

Went to compile peggy2_firstdemo and got the error message:

20: error: Peggy2.h: No such file or directory In function 'void setup()':
In function 'void loop()':

So do I need to move those files to a different directory? They are showing up in their own tab in the peggy2_firstdemo window? Right now they are in the same folder as User/Documents/Arduino/

I am trying to follow the instructions here:
http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/PeggyArdLib

is there something more current I should use instead?

thanks for your help

Mark

There have been a lot of changes in Arduino 1.0, and we have not yet revised all of our libraries to be compatible with it. 0017 should be good, but you can also use as new as Arduino-0023, the latest version before the big changes.

The Peggy2 library should be located in your "libraries" folder. Once you put it there, restart Arduino. If the library is correctly installed, then you should have a Peggy2 section in your "Examples" menu.

Ok now you are confusing me.

When you say "The Peggy2 library should be located in your 'libraries' folder"

What specific file(s) are you referring to? The Peggy2.h or Peggy2.cpp file? or do you mean the peggy2_firstdemo.pde file?

In an earlier reply you indicated the Peggy2 files should be located in my Documents folder?

thanks

The *whole* library needs to go in the libraries folder. The library is a folder called "Peggy2", and is what you get when you unzip the download. That WHOLE THING needs to go in the libraries folder.

From the Arduino site, about how to install libraries:

If you're using one of these libraries, you need to install it first. To do so, download the library and unzip it. It should be in a folder of its own, and will typically contain at least two files, one with a .h suffix and one with a .cpp suffix. Open your Arduino sketchbook folder. If there is already a folder there called libraries, place the library folder in there. If not, create a folder called libraries in the sketchbook folder, and drop the library folder in there. Then re-start the Arduino programming environment, and you should see your new library in the Sketch > Import Library menu.

> In an earlier reply you indicated the Peggy2 files should be located in my Documents folder?

No, the library goes in the "libraries" folder, inside the Arduino folder, which is inside your Documents folder. This is exactly what I said earlier.
