how can i wire up the larson kit to run larger leds.

I have 9 large LED blocks used as warning lights on a 4x4 when doing recovery work
they run off 12v dc each block takes about 500ma. these are non flashing unites the flasher is a seperate box which i dont need

am i looking in the right direction here
remove the leds and feed the signal that would have gone to the led on the board. into the base of a tip3055 transistor ( 9 transistors ) one to replace each led
wiht my 12v connected to the Colector . The emmiter connected to the +12v in on the led block and the ground connection on the led block connected to ground . whic is common ground to the 12v supply and the 3.5v board supply

would this work ok

You actually need to put the transistors on the *low* side of the LEDs.

Feed the signal that would have gone to the led on the board into the base of a tip3055 transistor ( 9 transistors ) one to replace each led. Connect the +12 V input on each LED block to 12 V. Connect the "ground" connection on each LED block to the collector of the transistors. Connect the emitter of each transistor to ground (common).

And, this assumes that the LED modules are simple, with nothing other than LEDs (and possibly resistors) inside. If there are other components-- including capacitors or active electronics --this may not work at all.
