My son and I just built our eggbot and installed the software on our mac. We have the eggbot extensions, we can raise and lower the pen, when we click to enable motor, the motor appears to be enabled.
But when I go to PLOT and click apply, a box opens that says "eggbot control working" and then immediately closes, and nothing happens. The USB light on the circuit board keeps blinking.
There seems to me to be a drawing in Inkscape, but I am such a novice that perhaps I have misunderstood that. In any case, I am confused! Any tips for me for how to get PLOT to actually do something?

Great work so far assembling the Eggbot. I think you're really close and ready to plot something. But a question for you: the drawing you have in Inkscape which you are trying to plot: did you create the drawing, or is it one of the examples? If it is one you created, please try one of the examples and see if it works. The examples are available at

http://code.google.com/p/eggbotcode/downloads/detail?name=EB_Example_Set_2010_10_09.zip&can=2&q=

I ask as it's possible you drew a picture in Inkscape which is not sized appropriately or which contains elements which won't be plotted. Examples of the latter include an image (e.g., photo) or an object which is filled but not outlined. The Eggbot doesn't draw normal Inkscape fills nor does it draw photos, but there are techniques to convert both to representations which the Eggbot can draw.

If in Inkscape you enable "outline" mode (View -> Display mode -> Outline), you will get a better view of the things the Eggbot will draw in your Inkscape drawing.

BTW, there's a nice "first plot" tutorial at the Eggbot wiki site,

Dan
