I'm a trucker, thinking of a camera system for protection against accident claims.
Camera system should be very rugged, due to the crumbling transportation network. Then, the weather and various ways the states deal with ice on the roads.
A recorder with - I think - continuous loop, and the ability to extract part of the video for evidence or other interesting recorded at highway speeds.
I'm running Vista Home Premium, on the note book.
I'm thinking a separate system for the camera, to reduce risk.
I do have a back up, with 3 gb ram.
Any ideas, mounting, cost...

If at all possible, I'd suggest using several pointing in different directions and mounting them *inside,* directly run from the laptop. This will make mounting and weatherproofing non-issues. If you want one or two on the back end, that makes things more difficult, of course. Surely there are some "home security" setups that already provide this sort of function for multiple cameras-- and some even include multiple weatherproof/wireless cameras, if you've got the cash.

Hi, Windell.
There are a lot of options. Some are more expensive than others.
Then, there are the technical aspects.
I was hoping to run across someone that had already done their home work, to learn from their experience, mistakes, successes, etc.
Here is a link to the Pelican Parts forums.
The topic is In Car Camera, started in 8/06.

I haven't had the time to catch up with them, lately.
Thanks.

We have a system that can be installed by yourself or bring it in for us to install. we offer video over ip and for poor cell coverage we offer back up video on board that you can retrieve later.
Let me know what type of budget you are looking at. You can email our installer at Jaxelectric@yahoo.com
