i need to buy a mircro controller and a microcontroller programer does anyone know where to buy them???

Depends what type of microcontroller and programmer you want. We recommend AVR microcontrollers, along with the USBtinyISP programmer from Adafruit Industries, and also the various Arduino systems-- which are based on AVR microcontrollers. You can get all of these things from Adafruit.

As mentioned above AVR microcontroller is best nowadays because it is very well made for a prototype board! It goes to show that with the power of a modern day microcontroller you can do what used to take many huge boards full of electronics not that long ago.
