Hi Windell. This one looks great. I am curious would it possible to use the code you provided with one of these displays instead:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=160-1554-5-ND

It is a super red, brighter display. Would the schematic need only different resistors and input voltage to compensate? If I make the calculations and adjust, is there anything else that might need to change, caveats, in relation to the code and/or chip settings, for the animation to work the same?

BTW love the network cable hack - is it a standard patch cable?

Oh, and does it matter if atmega168 is the 10mhz or 20mhz?

You might check that the display has the same pinout as the other one, other than that it should be fine. The chip can be 10 or 20 MHz, we're just using the 8 MHz internal oscillator. The network cable is just that; we like it because it's got neat groups of labeled wires.

Thanks! Do you think I would need different resistors and/or input voltage to compensate forward voltage difference? 2.0 instead of 1.7... Or could I use your schematic as-is (pinouts notwithstanding)?

I don't think that the forward voltage is sufficiently different to require any changes.
